About the Artist
By the time the faire was over Joan was searching hungrily through the Internet for any and all information on this new art form. Through several informative, educational, and quite helpful sites she learned how to find, mix, and apply henna in beautiful designs that have been gracing bodies for millenia. Joan has been doing henna body art since 2002. She continues to henna herself as often as possible and can always be seen with a design fading somewhere on her body. Joan Kovatch enjoys being an active part of the local community and can be found working with the wonderful dancers of To The Earth tribal dance troupe in Richmond, Virginia. She sustains an interest in organic farming by interning at Acorn Community in Louisa. Joan is available for private appointments, parties, corporate events, mitzvahs, workshops, weddings and other celebrations and occasions. |

Joan found the art of henna during high school through her creative writing teacher, who had her students create projects for the local renaissance faire. Having never attended a faire, Joan searched the Internet for more information, eager to learn something new. In the process she spotted a link named 'henna' on a web page, and, because the word was new to her, clicked.
